Effects of Dravyas and their Rasa inside the body

The dravya is ingested into the patient only after he/she has gone through a rigorous cleansing procedure, known as Shodhana. This includes filtration techniques, dialysis, decimation, decoloration, boiling, etc.

Depending on the rasa, each medicine has a separate effect on the biochemical energies or doshas inside the patient. The final aim is to obtain equilibrium among them in order to remedy the illness.

The potency or veerya of a drug has its own effect on the patient. The two veeryas are Ushma (hot) and Sheeta (cold). Ushma induces heat, giddiness, and sweating while Sheeta acts like a soothing balm on the patient.

Finally, the dravya gets transformed during digestion and this is called Vipaka. There are three types and they are Madhura Vipaka (sweet), Amla Vipaka (acidic) and Katu Vipaka (pungent). Each contributes to gastric and digestive functions in its own way.
