Next three types of rasas

The next three types of Rasas are Katu Rasa (pungent or acrid), Tikta Rasa (bitter) and Kashaya Rasa (astringent).

Katu Rasa has the Air and Fire elements as its dominant factors, and is a great cleansing agent. It helps balance out the Kapha dosha, and is known for its hot and dry qualities. It helps with perception in the sensory organs as well as with settling gastric issues. Its affinity lies with the stomach and the heart.

Tikta Rasa is known for its bitter taste, and has the Air and Space as its dominant elements. It balances the Pitta and Kapha doshas and aggravates Vata. It is said to have an affinity for the pancreas, liver and spleen. It helps the nervous system, and is an anti-inflammatory agent as well.

Kashaya Rasa has the Earth and Air elements dominant in it. It soothes the Kapha and Pitta doshas and provokes the Vatadosha. With an affinity for the colon, it is used as a sedative, helps in recovery from injuries, and cools the body.
