Types of first three Rasas

Madhura Rasa (sweet), Amla Rasa (acidic or sour) and Lavana Rasa (saline) are the first 3 Rasas that we cover.

Madhura Rasa is identified by its sweet taste, and is a cold, heavy and thick rasa. Its predominant elements are Earth and Water, and aids both Pitta and Vata. It harms Kapha dosha but is generally considered good for a person's vitality. It nourishes an individual's sensory organs, and is said to have an affinity for the thyroid and upper lungs.

Amla Rasa is identified by its acidic taste. It provides relief to Vata dosha but is said to aggravate Pitta and Kapha doshas. Its predominant elements are Earth and Fire, and it helps with digestion and improving the patient's appetite. It stimulates the salivary glands, and has an affinity for the lungs.

Lavana Rasa is known for its salty or saline taste, and enhances the overall flavour of food. It dominant elements are Water and Fire and this rasa helps Vata dosha the most. Also used as a laxative, it has an affinity for the kidneys
