Chal Beach, located just 10 km north of Kannur, in the Azhikode Grama Panchayat offers a tranquil escape for families and nature lovers. Recognized as one of Kerala’s two Blue Flag-certified beaches, Chal Beach boasts a 300-metre safe swimming zone, monitored by lifeguards to ensure safety for all visitors.
A stroll along the 800-metre sandy stretch, accompanied by the rhythmic sound of waves, creates a truly rejuvenating experience. Nature enthusiasts will be captivated by the vibrant Butterfly Park, filled with colorful butterflies, while families can enjoy quality time at the Children’s Park, designed to keep kids entertained. The safe swimming zone allows visitors to wade into the waves with confidence, knowing lifeguards are keeping a watchful eye.
Chal Beach also serves as an educational hub, promoting environmental awareness through its ‘Environmental and Sustainability Education Outreach’ programs. Visitors are encouraged to explore biodiversity and adopt sustainable practices in line with India’s ‘LiFE’ initiative, which addresses climate change through individual and collective efforts. During the nesting season, the Turtle Hatchery provides a unique opportunity to learn about the conservation of Olive Ridley turtles, adding to the beach’s charm and educational value.
The eco-friendly amenities enhance the visitor experience, with accessible toilets for everyone, water ATMs to reduce plastic waste, and freshwater showers for a refreshing rinse. A QR code feedback system ensures easy access to maps, emergency contacts, and a platform for sharing feedback.
In 2025, Chal Beach was awarded the prestigious Blue Flag Certification, joining the ranks of just 13 certified beaches in India. This recognition highlights its dedication to sustainability, safety, and eco-conscious tourism.
