This laterite plateau is well renowned not just for its stunning beauty. It is also noted for its historic relevance and the archaeological ruins found here. The remnants of the fort, called the Madayikotta still stand proud with four watch towers still guarding the former bastion. Another notable feature of the spot is a pond found here. With the shape of a hand held mirror, this pond which is also called the ‘joothakkulam’ (jew tank) has religious significance as well as links to the early Jewish settlers. The lake never dries up even during the fiercest of summers and is the primary source of water for the local fauna.

The Madayi Kavu Temple is a prominent place of worship that is dedicated to Goddess Kali. The temple is also known as the Thiruvar Kadu Bhagavathi Temple and is believed to be one of the oldest such temples constructed in God’s Own Country.
