Muzhappilangad Beach
Muzhappilangad Beach offers you the perfect blend of the thrill of adventure and the serene tranquility of a coastal paradise. Situated at a distance of 7 km from Thalassery in Kannur, Kerala. It offers you 4kms of sand along the enchanting Malabar coast for you to enjoy driving through with the wind in your hair be it in a motorbike or a four wheeled vehicle.Â
The natural black rocks that surround the beach protect it from the strong currents of the ocean. This is why this beach is also considered a swimmer’s paradise. The extensive rocky shoreline also provides a safe haven for migratory birds making the beach a birdwatching hotspot. During winter season more than 30 species of migratory birds seek out these shores.Â
The perfectly comfortable and safe swimming options, cleanliness, picturesque scenery around, the magical sunsets and the children’s park on its shores are what make this beach a favourite destination among travellers and locals alike.Â
Water sports, power boating or a simple catamaran ride, paragliding, parasailing and microlight flights are all options available here for those who seek more adventure. It is ideal to visit the beach during low tide not only because of the incredible drive in experience but also because of the fact that it is only during this time that you can literally walk over to the lush green Dharmadam Island which is located a short distance away from the beach.
The Malabar region is world famous for its vibrant culinary heritage which has been inspired and influenced by numerous cultural influences like Persian, Portuguese and Arab. Every dish in the Malabar cuisine is a feast for the senses, an experience not to be missed. This is precisely why a visit to the Muzhappilangad Beach is considered incomplete if you do not drop by at one of the local shacks that dot the area. Each of them offers a taste of the authentic, legendary Malabar cuisine.Â
The most unique feature of Malabar cuisine is the delicate balance of sour, sweet and spicy flavours that it upholds in each of its dishes. The result is a culinary experience that is both complex and harmonious in equal measure. The freshest catch of seafood served with the aromatic infusion of fragrant herbs, spices and coconut milk makes for an unforgettable ride for your palate. The black rocks that surround the beach are home to the blue mussel. This is served as a popular seafood option at these local shacks.Â
In the month of April each year, a Beach Festival is conducted at the Muzhappilangad Beach. This is one of the most sought after events of the year for beach lovers and tourists here. This is a time when you will be able to witness some of the coolest car and bike stunts on the beach and also enjoy some great cultural events and programmes as well.Â
The well maintained Muzhappilangad Beach is a package of fun filled surprises for everyone irrespective of age or preferences. It has a little something for each of its visitors.
