Poonthanam Illam

A traditional Kerala-style house in Malappuram district, Poonthanam Illam was once the home of the legendary poet, Poonthanam Namboothiri. Famous for his masterpiece the Janappana (Song of Knowledge), Poonthanam Namboothiri was a proponent of the Bhakti Movement that gripped the nation. His devotion to Guruvayurappan (Lord Krishna) is well known and the legend has it that the Lord himself approved of his works and overall humility. Today the house is maintained by the Guruvayur Devaswom and is a great reminder of the life and times of a master artisan.
