Thalankara, a quiet suburb of Kasaragod, rose to international fame because of the caps (Thalankara Thoppi - the traditional Muslim cap) made here. These flat round caps, with intricate designs woven out of gold threads on its sidebands, were once exported to Arab and African countries as well as to the Muslim traders in Lakshadweep. The historic Malik Ibn Deenar Masjid is also located here.
