Thamarassery Churam
Thamarassery Churam, a stunning mountain pass in Kerala's Western Ghats, connects the districts of Kozhikode and Wayanad. Renowned for its winding roads, lush greenery, and panoramic views, this ghat pass is a blend of natural beauty, historical intrigue, and thrilling adventure. With nine iconic hairpin bends, it offers an unforgettable journey for travelers, making it a favorite destination for nature lovers and adventure enthusiasts.
The 14-km stretch of Thamarassery Churam begins at Adivaram and winds up to the Lakkidi Viewpoint, perched 800 meters above sea level. Along the way, travelers are treated to breathtaking vistas of dense forests, cascading waterfalls, and wildlife sanctuaries. The monsoon season transforms the landscape into a misty wonderland, with roaring waterfalls and verdant hills creating a magical experience. The pass also holds historical significance, as it was developed during the British era with the help of Karinthandan, a tribal leader, to transport spices from Wayanad to Beypore Port in Kozhikode.
Apart from its natural allure, Thamarassery Churam is a biodiversity hotspot, home to elephants, deer, monkeys, and diverse bird species. The region is part of the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Western Ghats, adding to its ecological importance. The nearby Chain Tree, steeped in legend, adds a mystical touch to the journey. Whether you’re exploring the scenic beauty, navigating the thrilling hairpin bends, or immersing in its rich history, Thamarassery Churam offers a memorable experience. - More Unique Destinations
