Kaladi in Ernakulam

Kaladi in Ernakulam district is the birth place of the great humanitarian and philosopher, Adi Sankaracharya. The place is blessed with many important temples, including shrines dedicated to Sri Sankara, Sarada Devi, Sri Krishna and Sri Ramakrishna. Festival celebrations here are solemn events that attract believers in large numbers.

It is believed that the Sankaracharya was caught by a crocodile that refused to leave him until his mother let him accept Sanyas (renunciation). This location is called Crocodile Ghat and it attracts numerous visitors.
