The United Club in Fort Kochi, once a symbol of elite British society in Kochi, now serves a dual purpose, reflecting its storied past and present community role. Originally one of the four exclusive clubs established by the British in the area, the United Club was founded by a group of Indian youth in Fort Kochi as a form of protest against the British-owned Cochin Club, which barred entry to Indians until the country's independence in 1947.

During the early 20th century, the building that houses the United Club also served as the office for the Fort Kochi Municipality until 1907. Today, the club's premises have taken on a more modest role. By day, it functions as a classroom for the nearby St. Francis Primary School, the oldest English medium school in Fort Kochi. In the evenings, the club returns to its social roots, hosting members who gather to play cards and socialize.

While the United Club no longer holds the prestige it once did during the British colonial period, it remains a vital part of Fort Kochi’s legacy. The club has adapted to the changing times, now serving educational and social purposes, which ensures that it continues to be a place of gathering and community.
