Vazhani Dam
Vazhani Dam, located in the Thrissur district of Kerala, is one of the largest clay dams in the state and offers a perfect spot for a day out with family or friends. Constructed in 1962, this earthen dam is similar to the Banasura Sagar Dam and is surrounded by the natural beauty of the Peechi-Vazhani Wildlife Sanctuary. The dam is about 15 km from Thrissur and provides breathtaking views of the reservoir, mountains, and forests.
A unique feature of Vazhani Dam is the sense of calm that permeates the area. Visitors can relax by the lakeside, explore the lush garden, or take in the scenic surroundings from the hanging bridge. The peaceful environment and picturesque settings create a serene mood that soothes even the most troubled minds. The well-maintained garden near the dam is an excellent place for people of all ages to spend quality time, while a food court on the premises offers snacks, tea, coffee, ice cream, and juice for visitors.
For those interested in adventure, the Vazhani Dam area has some hidden treasures waiting to be explored. The Peechi-Vazhani Wildlife Sanctuary, located in the dam's catchment area, offers several trekking trails that lead through virgin lands yet to be fully explored. These include Moodal Hill Hiking (8 km), Dam Valley (6 km), Bison Trail (3 km), and Elephant Saga (2 km), all of which provide an opportunity to discover the untapped beauty of the region.
In addition to trekking, the dam also offers a range of other attractions. Visitors can enjoy the view from the hanging bridge, which provides a unique vantage point over the serene landscape. The area is known for its ethereal silence, and the breezes that waft through the area seem to whisper tranquility into the ears of visitors. The dam and its surroundings are ideal for those looking to escape the hustle and bustle of daily life and immerse themselves in nature.
Vazhani Dam is a place where natural beauty converges with human creations, offering an idyllic destination for a peaceful retreat or an adventurous day out. Whether you choose to relax by the lake, explore the trails, or simply enjoy the picturesque scenery, Vazhani Dam is a must-visit spot in Thrissur.
