Located where the Veli Lake meets the Arabian Sea, the Veil Tourist Village is one of the most sought after picnic spots in Thiruvananthapuram district. Barely 10km from the capital city, Veli Tourist Village is easily accessible via bus, auto or private vehicles. A well maintained, vibrant garden stands at the southern banks of the Veli lagoon. It is connected to the beach by a floating bridge.
Horse riding, pedal boating, a children’s park, a floating restaurant, a swimming pool, aesthetically laid out walk ways and plenty of comfortable seating arrangements make this an ideal picnic spot. The children’s park has everything a child can wish for including swings, see-saws, slides, merry-go-rounds, playground climbers and spring riders. There is a conch statue here crafted by the renowned sculptor, Kanayi Kunhiraman which is an attraction for visitors.
The latest addition to the Veli Tourist Village is what is believed to be India’s first solar powered miniature train. The train ride that covers a total distance of 2.5km will allow the travellers to enjoy the charm and grace of Veli in all its glory. Modelled after the vintage steam locomotive it even has artificial smoke that chugs out to give it an authentic appearance. The station house of this train too has been modelled in a traditional style and the rail system features every aspect of a real fully equipped rail system including a ticket office, station and tunnel. With three bogies and ample space, the train can accommodate around 45 people on board at a time. The miniature train is sure to create many life long memories for children and adults alike.
Visitors to the village can hire paddle boats or peddle boats as per their preference or may choose to enjoy the serene calmness of the surrounding gardens. The village offers you the best of different worlds - the backwaters, beach and gardens.
The Veli Beach, unlike other beaches, is not crowded or chaotic. It offers solitude and peace in equal measure. After you have sauntered around in the gardens and enjoyed the shimmering waters of the lake, head over to this beach. Take a leisurely stroll along the shoreline, feel the warm embrace of the sun on your skin and the soft sand between your toes. Breathe in the salty sea breeze and listen to the soothing melody of waves caressing the shore, as seabirds glide gracefully overhead. For those seeking solitude, find a secluded spot beneath the shade of a palm tree and lose yourself in the rhythm of the majestic Arabian Sea, where time stands still and woes fade away.
After a day of sun soaked adventures, be sure to drop by the floating restaurant in the vicinity and other local food stalls to treat your tastebuds to a grand festival of flavours. From delicious seafood delights to teatime snacks like the Pazham Pori or banana fritters, they have it all. Indulge yourself and enjoy the food on offer.
Recreation, entertainment, play areas for kids, good food, serenity, fun, it’s all a package deal at the Veli Tourist Village. A little something awaits every visitor here.
