Ponmudi Hills
What first greets you on your journey to Ponmudi, a hill station 60 kms from Trivandrum is Kallar, the river with a temperament that could swing wildly in a flash, impinged by the showers on the distant mountains you cannot see. Move on, the best is yet to be. Up the trail, somewhere, the mist will take you over from the dark winding road. Ponmudi is a hill station, not far from the city of Trivandrum. It attracts a large number of urban tourists round the year. But that should not deter you, as the vast expanse of the hilltop can’t be crowded out by any number of people. Take a deep breath as the road suddenly expands into a plateau surrounded by blue mountains and green valleys on all sides. A draft of wind hurries in and you shudder your arms digging deep into your pockets.
This place can be the destination for the weekend tourist. But for those who want to see what lies beyond the surface of Ponmudi, trek trails open promising greater excitements.
