FAQ

Are floods Frequent in Kerala?

Kerala is a state that enjoys two rainy seasons in a year. One is the southwest monsoon in June/July and the other is the northeast monsoon in October/November. The northeast monsoon is not as heavy and copious compared to the southwest monsoon. Apart from these two rainy seasons, Kerala receives rains during the summer months of April and May; again this is not as significant compared to the monsoons.

Talking about floods, yes, Kerala has had its share of flood in its earlier days, but the recent years, especially since 2015, have witnessed couple of instances of major flooding, owing to excessive rainfall during the southwest monsoon. This again has been an outcome of changing weather patterns experienced worldwide, owing to global warming and related issues.
