Does Kerala still retain the Portuguese influence?

Kerala still carries traces of Portuguese influence in different aspects.

The churches, houses and streets of Fort Kochi and Mattancherry exhibit a style of architecture with strong Portuguese influence. Many churches, like the Santa Cruz Basilica in Fort Kochi, retain their distinctive Portuguese architectural style.

Malayalam has borrowed over 300 words from Portuguese, including common terms like chaavi (key) and saavaala (onion).

Dishes like appam (pancakes) and beef samosas are believed to have been introduced by the Portuguese. The use of coconut oil and spices in Kerala cuisine reflects Portuguese culinary traditions. The Portuguese also promoted systematic farming of cash crops in Kerala.
