How many days you need to see important destinations in Kerala?
It depends on the kind of destinations one chooses. However, considering some of the popular and major ones, the following would be an ideal mix.
Starting your visit from down south of Kerala, i.e., Thiruvananthapuram, one could spend two days in Kovalam or Varkala beach. After that one could move to the Ashtamudi backwaters of Kollam and take a houseboat cruise to the Vembanad backwaters in Alappuzha district. This again will take two days.
From there one could try the high ranges, and for this the nearest one in Vagamon hills in Kottayam district or else may try Munnar in Idukki district. Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary, again in Idukki district, is worth exploring. Either of this would take two days.
From Idukki one may go to Ernakulam and visit Fort Kochi and Mattancherry, which are heritage sites in Kerala with interesting culture and history. This would take at least three days, if one is inclined to do a bit of shopping too.
Further north, one may visit the world-renowned training centre for performing arts, i.e., Kerala Kalamandalam in Thrissur district, watch performances as well as witness training sessions, which would consume a day. And there are other major destinations in the northern districts of Kerala like the Kottakkal Arya Vaidya Sala in Malappuram district, which is a leading centre for Ayurveda in India; the historic Kappad beach and SM Street in Kozhikode district and finally the imposing seaside fort of Bekal in Kasaragod district.
The destinations mentioned in these three districts will demand at least four days of your total travel itinerary. Altogether 14 days looks good enough for one to visit and experience some among the important travel destinations in Kerala.
