How to spend a week in Kerala

To kick off your week-long tour of Kerala, you may spend Day 1 and 2 in Kochi, a vibrant coastal city known for its rich history, colonial architecture and unique blend of influences.

Explore Fort Kochi, lined with colourful streets, antique shops, art galleries and cafes. Some of the travel attractions here include the Santa Cruz Basilica, the oldest European church in India, and the 16th century Mattancherry Palace exuding Kerala's cultural heritage. A walk along the scenic Kochi Beach with the fresh sea breeze caressing you all over is an enlivening experience.

Moving on to Day 3, you could visit the backwaters of Alappuzha (formerly Alleppey). The picturesque backwaters, network of canals, lakes and lagoons are sure to provide you with an interesting and unique travel experience. Here, you may try a houseboat cruise, which will take you close to the backwater life, scenic locales, backwater delicacies, local villages and rich birdlife.

Coming to Day 4, head for Munnar, one of the best hill stations in Kerala. It is a picture-postcard like hill station in the Western Ghats. Here, the wind carries the fragrance of the tea plantations, and the region is marked by ethereal landscapes with rolling hills, small and big waterfalls and lakes. Munnar offers many breathtaking viewpoints. One such location is the Echo Point. Here, your calls are echoed back from the surrounding hills.

And on Day 5, elevate your spirits by undergoing Ayurvedic rejuvenation in Kumarakom. It is a beautiful backwater destination. Here, you may try out the therapies and other healthcare interventions of India's age-old healthcare wisdom - Ayurveda. In order to rejuvenate, Ayurveda offers massages, herbal baths and yoga sessions.

Moving on to Day 6, you checkout the southernmost district of Kerala. The highlight of your visit to Thiruvananthapuram, the capital city of Kerala, will be the Padmanabhaswamy temple, which is renowned worldwide as the richest temple. Further, there is the Napier Museum, showcasing a vast collection of bronze artifacts, sculptures and historical treasures and nearby is the Kanakakkunnu palace of the erstwhile royal family of Travancore.

And on Day 7, moving further down south from the city of Thiruvananthapuram, you may visit the Kovalam beach. It is one of the finest beach spots in Kerala to relax and unwind. The sun, sand and refreshing swims in the relatively placid waters of the Arabian sea will also prompt you to try water sports activities like surfing, kayaking and parasailing. And those fond of gustatory delights may indulge in seafood delicacies at the beachfront restaurants.

This 7-day tour is ideal for you to have an experience of Kerala that is quite unique and varied.
