FAQ

Is it difficult to do trekking in the Western Ghats in Kerala?

The following may be taken as a set of guidelines, based on difficult trekking trails.

Easy: These trails are suitable for beginners and families. They typically have well-maintained paths with gentle inclines, and offer scenic views. Examples include Dhoni Hills in Palakkad and parts of Chembra Peak in Wayanad.

Moderate: These trails offer a more challenging experience but are still manageable for most people with a decent fitness level. Expect some steeper sections and uneven terrain. Examples include a complete Chembra Peak trek and some trails in Wayanad like Edakkal Caves.

Difficult: These treks are physically demanding and require good stamina and experience. They may involve steep climbs, through dense forests and challenging weather conditions. Examples include Agasthyarkoodam Peak in Thiruvananthapuram district and Chokramudi Peak in Munnar (Idukki district).

Longer treks naturally demand more endurance. Monsoon season can make trails slippery and potentially dangerous. The hot summer sun can also be challenging.
