Popular Vegetarian Dishes of Kerala

Kerala has a rich culinary tradition with a diverse array of vegetarian dishes.

Some of the popular main courses are:

  • Appam and Stew: A breakfast dish featuring soft, fermented rice pancakes served with a flavourful vegetable stew.
  • Puttu and Kadala Curry: Steamed cylindrical-shaped cakes made from rice flour and coconut, paired with a spicy chickpea curry.


Sadya: A traditional vegetarian feast served on a banana leaf, featuring a variety of dishes like sambar, rasam, thoran and payasam.
