What are the Adventure Sports Opportunities in Kerala?

For those with an adventurous streak, Kerala is the best place with a host of ideal destinations. The topography, terrain and climate are perfect to try out different kinds of adventure. 

Trekking
Hills, plantations, grasslands and countryside offer amazing trekking opportunities. Some of the most popular trekking destinations are Agasthyakoodam, Parambikulam and Munnar. Agasthyakoodam is the second highest peak in southern India. It is located at a distance of 70 km from Thiruvananthapuram. The trekking experience to Agasthyakoodam is one for a lifetime. There are two options at Parambikulam. There is the forest tramway trek and the Kariyanshola trail through evergreen forests. In Munnar, the trek to Meesapulimala is the most sought-after choice. It takes six hours to trek through forest to Meesapulimala, and it is quite a demanding but thrilling trek. 

Paragliding
Vagamon is the most famous paragliding spot in Kerala. The season starts from September. Make the most of the ideal flying conditions till January. Paragliders from different parts of the world converge here every year. 

Water sports
With a sprawling coastline and backwaters, Kerala covers the entire spectrum of water sports. Canoeing, kayaking, sailing, waterskiing and wind surfing are the popular water sports that can be experienced in Kerala. Alappuzha, Varkala and Kovalam are the famous spots for water sports. Catamaran sailing is available in these beaches. Speed boating and bamboo rafting are offered in the backwaters.

Rock climbing
Eruthavoor in Thiruvananthapuram, Thenmala in Kollam, Munnar, Kolagappara in Wayanad are some of the popular rock-climbing destinations in Kerala. Thenmala, an ecotourism hub has an undulating terrain. The adventure zone offers opportunities for rock climbing with pegs and ropes. 

Cycling
Cycling is quite a way to explore Kerala through winding paths, country lanes and tracks. Hill stations like Munnar and places like Wayanad offer opportunities for cycling along the plantations, beautiful villages and forests.
