What are the must go-to destinations?

KOVALAM: One of the most sought-after beach destinations, Kovalam gives the best of holiday experiences. with coconut palms lining its shore, the light house and stunning view of sunset, it`s a picture-perfect destination. Crescent-shaped beaches - Lighthouse Beach, Eve’s Beach or Hawah Beach and the Samudra beach - are the popular tourist spots in Kovalam. If you love shopping, Kovalam is the best place. Drop in at the curio shops dotting the shore, and take back beautiful souvenirs. The catamaran rides and snorkelling are attractions no tourist can resist in Kovalam’s pristine waters. The airport is less than half-an-hour’s drive from Kovalam. Tourists can recharge themselves with body massages and yoga, under trained practitioners. There is plenty to explore nearby; the Vettucadu church and the Vellar arts and crafts village. Or, you can drive a few kilometres to reach Veli and Akkulam tourism villages. Poovar and Azhimala, two nearby places, could just be the ideal spots to make the most of a holiday. This is a destination which allows one to explore the coastal life. Nearby coastal hamlets like Chowara, Vizhinjam and Adimalathura offer a glimpse into the lives of the fisherfolk. 

WAYANAD: Wayanad and greenery are inseparable. For a start, let`s take a look at the origin of the word. It is derived from Vayal Nadu. In Malayalam it means “the land of paddy fields”. Located among the mountains of the Western Ghats on the eastern side of north Kerala and to the side of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka states, Wayanad is the perfect destination to relax, explore and bask in adventure. This is one place which is a haven for camping and trekking. To begin with, Karapuzha Dam, Pookode and Karlad lake are some of the main attractions here. Adventurers can explore the Cheengeri rock adventure centre. History buffs may have a lot to learn and explore at the famous Edakkal caves, two natural rock formations. If there is one place which captures the best of Wayanad, it is Vythiri. Located 2600 ft above sea level, Vythiri is a place of stunning landscape and amazing attractions. Pookode lake, a natural freshwater lake, Kanthanpara waterfalls, Chain tree at Lakkidi, Vythiri will never cease to amaze. Boating in Pookode lake always tops the itinerary for a trip to Wayanad. 

ALAPPUZHA: A land of beaches, backwaters and paddy fields - that`s Alappuzha for you. Popularly known as “the Venice of the East,” it plays host to popular water sports, the most notable being the Nehru Trophy boat race. Backwater cruise in houseboat is an experience every tourist likes to treasure in Alappuzha. With cosy bedrooms, a wide spread of traditional cuisine, plush living rooms and warm hosts, houseboats match expectations in every way. If history excites you, there is the famous Alappuzha pier, which runs into the sea. Explore the beautiful hamlets in Alappuzha and Kuttanad to get a feel of rustic life. For the die-hard fans of water sports, Nehru trophy race is an experience to cherish for a life time. With its packed crowds, the frenzy and the never-say-die spirit of the oarsmen, boat races are quite a spectacle to watch in Alappuzha. Festivities play a huge role in the collective life of Alappuzha. The annual festival of St Andrew’s church at Arthunkal draws a huge crowd, and being a part of the fest will surely be a memorable experience.

FORT KOCHI: Travel back in time at Kerala`s popular destination, Fort Kochi. Heritage and urban vibes blend so well here. This is one place where the tourists can explore the remnants of a colonial past, at their own pace. Take a walk to the Fort Immanuel, the Dutch Cemetery or marvel at Thakur House, a bungalow built in colonial era style. David Hall, named after David Koder, St Francis Church, the oldest European church in India and Pierce Leslie Bungalow, Fort Kochi is home to such magnificent historical structures. Drop by at Vasco House, one of the oldest Portuguese buildings in Kochi. If you are into architecture, a visit to the legendary Bishop House is worth your time. Fort Kochi beach is a favourite hangout known for its calm ambience and cleanliness. Try a hand at Chinese fishing nets. The Indo-Portuguese Museum, located on the premises of the Bishop’s House, has an array of various artefacts collected from different churches. The trail of history never ends here. Maritime Museum, set up in two fortified ammunition bunkers built before World War II, is a window to the maritime history of Kerala.
