Kerala experiences tropical climate marked by two rainy seasons. The southwest monsoon that occurs in the months of June / July brings the major share of rainfall, compared to the northeast monsoon rains that happen in October / November. Though the temperature ranges from 25 to 36 degree Celsius in the coastal regions and the midlands, the high ranges on the eastern part of Kerala, which are marked by the mountains of the Wester Ghats experience low temperatures. Places like Munnar in Idukki district have recorded temperature close to freezing and even below.
The summer months from March to May are marked by high humidity, and sultry conditions prevail in the coastal regions and the midlands. There is no marked cool season in Kerala, though the months of December, January and February are usually pleasant and cool.
