The Festival of Weeks or Shabuot takes place seven weeks after the Jewish Festival of Freedom called Pessah. While Pessah commemorates the physical liberation of the Jews from Egypt, Shabuot symbolizes spiritual liberation. It is also celebrated as the feast of revelation, the anniversary of the gifting of the Jewish holy book, the Torah, to the faithful as they gathered on Mount Sinai. The synagogues (Jewish places of worship), as well as the Torah, are decorated with wreaths of flowers and the Ten Commandments are read.
