Tranquil Resort, Wayanad
Tranquil, the plantation bungalow in Wayanad district, north Kerala had its beginning as a home-stay facility. From the very beginning itself this plantation retreat caught the attention of travellers from near and far. Tranquil was the recipient of Kerala Tourism's award for the 'Best Home-Stay' in Kerala on three occasions in the past.
From a home-stay, Tranquil evolved into a resort in a short span of time. And its attraction still lies in the facilities and services, which are topped by the unique warmth and affection of its owners - Victor and Ranjini. This enterprising couple knows the right hospitality mix for their visitors and they deliver it without fail.
This 400-acre private coffee and spices plantation is nestled within the remote and lush rainforest of Wayanad, in the north part of Kerala, India. Much of the experience at Tranquil is to enjoy the serene surroundings and re-charge your batteries.
Accommodation
At Tranquil, guests can opt for standard rooms that come with large, well-equipped and airy bathrooms. The deluxe rooms at Tranquil have a view that looks down over the swimming pool from a private verandah. These are large rooms with wooden floors, ceiling and paneling. For the convenience of guests, there are two individual bathrooms and dressing room en suite. Close to the swimming pool, and coming below the deluxe rooms is the suite. While enjoying the space and privacy of the suite, one can also have the added luxury of a private garden.
Branching off from a Gul Mohar Tree is the luxury tree house at Tranquil. Thirty-five feet above the ground and overlooking a valley facing north, this tree house is supported by two other nearby trees also. It has a bedroom, a bathroom with a six point shower and a north facing verandah offering a panoramic view of the estate. Adequate light and ventilation have been provided along with insect screens on all openings. The tree house is close to the main house and is connected by intercom. Yet another tree house experience at Tranquil Resort is the tree villa. With a panoramic view of the estate, this tree house is a spacious one, which is child-friendly and completely insect-proofed. It can accommodate four people and has spacious verandahs on two sides and two bathrooms.
All the rooms have television, DVD, satellite receiver, electronic safe and tea/coffee maker as standard accessories.
Activities
Relaxing in the outdoor pool at Tranquil is always an inviting proposition. One can also have a session of unwinding in the Jacuzzi next to the pool.
Close to the pool is a tree deck, locally known as
machan. It is ideal for those who would love to do yoga and meditate or even for an afternoon siesta. One can also snuggle in a hammock below the
machan.
Also at Tranquil, one can go for traditional Kerala ayurvedic massage by trained masseurs / masseuses.
And those who crave for some outdoor excitements may choose from 12 routes, spanning the 400 acre plantation. For the walks, guests are provided with maps. Appropriate footwear is advised for undertaking these walks. And last, but not the least, the resort and the whole plantation is a bird watcher's paradise.
Food at Tranquil
Guests at Tranquil, enjoy their meals together in a common dining area. Here, you would have the choice to go for continental fare, regional Indian favourites, traditional Kerala cuisine and 'Grandmother's' secret formulas. Home-grown vegetables and fruits and home-made bread and jams and preserves are bound to add up to a gourmet's delight. And what about rounding off your meals with a piping cup of coffee made from hand-picked Arabica/Robusta coffee beans from the estate?
The time to be at Tranquil
Of course the post-monsoon period from November to March is the best period to enjoy the goodies at Tranquil Resort. It is a period when there is an explosion of greenery and wildlife with temperatures ranging from 15 to 25 centigrade.
So, the next time you are on the lookout for a calm and quiet vacation, Tranquil Resort would be an obvious choice. Here, one can trek and explore its many settings, enjoy food while relaxing at viewpoints and get pampered by the hosts.
