It's been more than 35 years since Nyggi Aggernaes' heart tuned its rhythm to the beats of Kerala. The sun-kissed beaches, misty hill stations and placid backwaters have colonized every nook and cranny of his mindscape. That's the reason why this Dutchman still visits God's Own Country twice a year.
Nyggi Aggernaes is the director of IndienSpecialisten.dk, a website that helps people around the globe to know more about the culture of India and facilitates a travel experiences for them in India.
"Beautiful, friendly, open and hospitable people are the real wealth of Kerala," observes Aggernaes "It is one of the safest destinations in the world. You can walk anywhere in Kerala without fear - be it a street, village or city," he says. For him the culture of Kerala is truly fascinating. "It is not only different from Europe or any other foreign countries, but also very different from the rest of India. For Aggernaes, Kerala is a picture that will never fade out from his mind. He has been to destinations in Kerala like Wayanad, Munnar, Thekkady...and the list goes on. "Among them Kovalam is my favourite," remarks Aggernaes.
"The temples here are very much absorbing and so are the festivals. I had been to so many colourful festivals in Kerala. Being there was a wonderful experience," recollects Aggernaes. "The art forms are also absorbing. I was also awestruck by the charisma of Kathakali performance," he said. Aggernaes finds the cuisine here quite exciting and loves Kerala meals and also the variety of breakfast dishes like puttu and appam. For him the most tempting of dishes are the seafood, which he says, are simply irresistible.
