Yurga Petronyte

Cochin city with its storied past has allured Yurga Petronyte from Lithuania to the shores of this coastal state yet again. This time, she returns with an awakened curiosity to explore the state further. The meandering backwaters of Kerala that snakes through the entire length and breadth of the state, crisscrossing innumerous number of villages has won her heart.

Yurga, an enthusiastic lady found her journey through the backwaters of Cochin to be an experience of a lifetime as she could see the life of villagers, their crafts, their occupations and their cuisine up close and feel fascinated by their lives that is entwined with nature.

To add variety to her sojourn in Kerala, she spent three days in Munnar. Of all the visual treats that this God’s own country offered her,  the hill stations have won her heart. Munnar transposed her into a dreamy world. The rare vistas in and around Munnar have thrilled her to the extent of making her wish that she could spend much more time exploring Munnar and the spice scented plantations.  Recalling her experiences in the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary she said that Kerala has a rich variety of flora and fauna and is blessed with a very balanced and pleasant climate.

She relishes all the delicacies of Kerala and is amazed by the richness of its flavors and fragrances. Being a die hard fan of fish, she has developed a strong liking for the traditional seafood dishes of Kerala. The only aspect about her visit to Kerala that she is disappointed about is the fact that she could not get the opportunity to watch a real time performance of any of the traditional Kerala art forms. However, she has seen the recorded versions of Kathakali and Theyyam.
