A traveler at heart, Jean Louis Mackels from Belgium is not new to India. Around 10 years back, he had visited the Northern parts of the nation but God’s Own Country has taken him completely by surprise.
In the process of exploring the state a bit at a time, he waxes eloquent about the spirit of the land.
“Each place in Kerala has a soul of its own. The experience Kochi has, to offer you is wildly different from what the forests of Wayanad offers. And even more different will be the feel you get when walking through the streets of Kozhikode. Kerala is immensely diverse and richly varied,” he says with enthusiasm glistening in his eyes.
He goes on to explain how even when he has travelled so far and wide across the globe, he has never been to a place with such a varied topography and culture as Kerala. He also found it amazing that each destination has a rich cultural heritage of its own.
The velvet greenery is another aspect that he finds both alluring and attractive. The sensual beauty of Kerala, the enchantment tagged to each destination and the rich legacy of its past are all captivating and have invariably held Jean Louis Mackels in awe.
A huge fan of spicy food, for him, Kerala is truly heaven-like; especially in the context of its rich cuisine. The seafood specialties in God’s Own Country are his particular favourites.
According to him it is the warm hospitality and friendliness of the locals that made Kerala feel like a second home for him. He believes this to be one of the many USPs of the state. Even as he is on the verge of leaving for his homeland after a fulfilling vacation here, he swears he will be back for more pretty soon!
