Vellur and its Rich Heritage

Far away from the maddening crowd, situates the slow-moving sleepy hamlet Vellur, tucked deep away in the peaceful countryside of Kannur.

The panoramic vistas of green carpeted paddy fields and the centuries-old art and craft are cherished here for no small reason. You’d only have to step into this village to learn how heritage conspires with nature to make its beauty unique.

A stroll through the flourishing fields lending your ears to the murmuring rice plants and bathing in the frigid waters of silver streams on a misty morning caters to the tastes of any ardent nature lover.

Besides its natural charm, the village is renowned for its rich heritage and culture and Shaaliya Porattu, the folk art form, showcases this at its best.

The weaving centres of Vellur are guardians of its prosperous tradition. Kannur always holds a remarkable space in the cultural history of Kerala with its unique art and craftsmanship. The weaving centres, the Bell Metal making village, artforms like Theyyam, Poorkkali and Porattu add flavours to this cultural scenario.

Brimming with art and craft, Vellur awaits to share the secrets of its cultural opulence and allures you to cleanse your heart with a fresh breeze and its immense natural beauty.
Theyyam, the ritual artform of Kerala is also an essential element of Vellur. A series of temples here let you experience the vibrance of this unique art up close.

Peppered with strolls through serene villages, green patches and celebrations of religious festivities and the vibrant arts of God’s Own Country, the journey to Vellur will be a treat to all the senses.
