Njarakkal, a fish farm-turned-ecotourism hub in the heart of Vypin is the centre of backwater tourism in Kochi. It is an ideal destination to experience the sights and sounds of the variegated Kerala culture. Chill out on a hammock and sip tender coconuts, with the pristine beauty of tropical backwaters in the background.
Spanning over a 36-acre near Arattuvazhi beach are three ponds that nurture various varieties of fish including Pearl Spots (Karimeen), the state fish of Kerala, Poomeen (Milkfish) and many others. Here the visitors are given a chance to try their luck in fishing and can take their catch home, upon payment.
The farm offers a variety of packages which includes food, drinks, and recreational fishing. The lunch, rich with varied dishes of fish, served in a floating bamboo hut in the middle of one the ponds, is a major attraction.
The farm also has facilities for recreational boating that includes kuttavanchi (coracle ride), rowing boat, pedal boat, water cycle, kayaking, and solar boat.
The friendly staff and the variety of packages make Njarakkal Aqua tourism an ideal getaway spot for tourists.
Aqua tourism hub is located around 20 kms from Kochi, the Queen of Arabian Sea.
