Let Green Lead the Way

“Green Travel, Green Stay and Evergreen Memories”- This is the motto of India’s first planned Eco-tourism centre, Thenmala.

Situated in Kollam district, Thenmala flaunts the incredible beauty of Shenduruney Wildlife Sanctuary that nestles in the foothills of the majestic Western Ghats. The word Thenmala means “hill that flows with honey,” indicating the countless streams that make this place even more heavenly.

scores of leisure and adventure activities, planned by Kerala Tourism Department, are what make a Thenmala visit an experience to treasure. Adventure Zone tests your spirit of endurance with beautifully designed nature trails, challenging you to try the elevated walkway, attempt mountain biking, do river and valley crossing, make the tunnel walk, test your archery skills and enjoy the head-spinning gyroscope. Besides these, you can try out coracle ride, water roller, Burma Bridge, zip-line tour, aerial skating, tree and wall climbing and other fun-filled activities that will give you an adrenaline rush.

A close encounter with Mother Earth is what welcomes you at the Leisure Zone of Thenmala. Winding trails, hanging bridge, riverfront walkway or a visit to the majestic Parappar Dam – have your pick and enjoy the day!

A butterfly garden, Nakshatravanam, children’s park, musical dancing fountain, amphitheatre, food outlets, and shop courts are the highlights of the Culture Zone.

Apart from these exciting experiences, this green patch of land offers options that make it a trekker’s favourite escape spot. Trek to the outskirts of the wild Shenduruney, and spot some rare fauna and flora.

The department offers guided trekking and hiking programmes here.

This vacation, take the road to Thenmala, and carry home some evergreen memories!
