Thumboormozhi – Feel the Pulse of Nature

A vacation on the lap of Mother Nature, that is what a trip to Thumboormozhi Dam and Hanging Bridge in Thrissur district has in offer for you. Nestled in the Chalakkudy River en route to the world-famous Athirappilly Waterfalls, Thumboormozhi has all the features of a perfect getaway - a dam, a hanging bridge, a butterfly garden and a children’s park.

Built across the Chalakkudy River, the dam provides water for irrigation purposes to nearby villages. The water from the river is routed through two canals - Edathukara and Valathukara - to cater to requirements of the villagers in the neighbourhood. During monsoon, the water will be in full force and hurtle down through the rocks, taking away everything that traverses its path. Tourists will enjoy a visual spectacle during the rains, with the greenery in full glory and the gushing waters drowning their thoughts or anxieties.

The hanging bridge is the crowning glory of Thumboormozhi, connecting tourists to Ezhattumukham-Prakriti Gramam (Nature Village). A walk across the bridge, connecting two banks of Chalakkudy River, will give you a panoramic view of Thumboormozhi apart from giving freeze moments for your album. A butterfly park and a children’s park beckon visitors at the other side of the bridge.

Home to more than 140 species of butterflies, the butterfly park is an absolute treat. With their brightly coloured wings and constant fluttering, the winged beauties will take your breath away. Southern birdwing (Troides minos), lemon butterfly (Papilio demoleus), light blue tiger (Tirumala limniace), common rose (Pachliopta aristolochiae) and dark blue tiger (Tirumala septentrionis) are some of the butterflies visible in the park.

The children’s park amid a manicured garden is a fun zone, guaranteed to give happiness to kids and the lush green forest compliments the picture-perfect setting. The parks also play host to migratory birds, and accommodates plants such as pagoda flower, Mexican heather, rattle pods, rubiaceae and flame lily.

If you want a quick escape from the hustle and bustle of your busy life, then the alluring Thumboormozhi is the perfect choice.
