Located around 20 km from Thrissur city, Enamavu is a lesser-known beauty with immense greenery and charming landscapes. It is a dream destination free from the clutter of concrete, pollution or the hustle and bustle of a city. Backwaters, lake, dam, hills and lush green fields add to the charm of this countryside.
The lake in the village is a result of the water flowing from the Peechi Dam. Enamavu kettu or Enamavu bund was built across the lake to prevent the mixing of freshwater and saltwater. It caters to the safe drinking water needs of the Enamavu village. Paddy fields near the lake form a beautiful sight and are sure to cast a spell on the onlookers.
Enamavu is replete with historical references. Once a hub that attracted foreign sailors, the place still holds certain colonial edifices of the British and the Portuguese that point to to the not-so-glorious phase of Kerala. The Portuguese Church of Lady Mount of Caramel is one symbol of the colonial era here.
Going boating is the best way to get a feel of the village and its surroundings. Houseboats offer plenty of packages like sunset cruises to choose from. Cross the Enamavu waters to stop over at Coconut Island, a cosy nest where one can relax over lunch, or write or read a book.
Chettuva backwaters, Chavakkad beach, the temple town of Guruvayur, Vilangan Hills, Vadanappally Beach and Snehatheeram Beach are some of the nearby tourist places.
