Kadalkaanipara is an offbeat tourist spot located 32 km from Thiruvananthapuram city. With its green carpet, misty hills, unending valley, exotic sunrise and sunset scenes and cool environs, Kadalkaanipara at Karette is a perfect picnic spot in which to spend some quality time.
The rocky hilltop is located almost at an equal distance from Varkala and Ponmudi. It involves a bit of trekking to the top where there are a lot of rock formations. There is a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, and the idol is enshrined inside a cave.
Climbing to the top amid rocks and woods involves a share of adventure. There are concrete pathways laid to navigate our journey. Mesmerizing views await us at the hilltop. If it is a day of clear skies, we can spot Varkala beach, the lighthouse, Ponmudi and Kilimanoor town from the top. Cool breeze, green canopy and serene silence will relax the soul in us. We can rest at the numerous big rock formations in the area, and even try exploring the caves. We have to be careful while exploring the rocks as only some have fencing.
Early mornings and evenings are the ideal time to visit Kadalkaanipara.
Meenmutti Waterfalls, Jatayu Earth Centre and Kilimanoor Palace are the nearby tourist places.
