A flawless image to remember Kerala's splendour! Clappana village in Kollam district in southern Kerala is a well-kept secret that weaves an enchanting spell with its rustic allure and expansive paddy fields. The tales of the village are much related to the renowned Ochira Temple. It is believed that the bulls destined for the temple were tied to palm trees in this region, resulting in the area being named ‘Kalapana’, a name that eventually evolved into Clappana.
Clappana’s historical name is intertwined with its agricultural legacy. Reputed as the ‘Paddy Field of Onatukara’, Clappana was once a region blessed with extensive farmlands and hardworking people. During the sowing season, it was a tradition to bring cattle from the southern regions for ploughing and they would set up a camp in the southern part of Clappana, which was rich in palm trees.
As you look around, the extensive paddy fields create a mesmerising scene, enhancing the village's idyllic charm. While Clappana is renowned for its agricultural heritage, it also serves as a haven for an extensive range of flora and fauna. The fields and surrounding water bodies provide a habitat for a multitude of birds and animals.
Pamper your senses with the beauty of Kerala’s village life, and engage with the locals to delve into its rich culture. Clappana is where natural and cultural heritages coalesce to form an ideal destination for visitors seeking an authentic and quiet experience.
