Nestled on the fringes of the Western Ghats, Kakkayam Dam in Kozhikode district is home to a diverse array of flora and fauna. Boat riding is a must if you want to explore the hidden beauty of the place. Kerala Hydel Tourism Centre (KHTC), a subsidiary of Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB), runs a speed-boat service through the reservoir. The ride will give you an exclusive view of the dam with its waterfalls and dense forests. Lucky visitors can spot herds of elephants, bison, sambar deer, wild gaur, etc. in the catchment area during the trip.
There are a couple of beautiful waterfalls (like Ambalappra waterfall) near the reservoir. If you want to enjoy their untamed splendour, tread the unchartered path through the surroundings.
There is a hanging bridge on the waterfall which is another tourist attraction.
