If you thought Athirappilly was all about the charming waterfalls and the forest, there is a surprise in store. Do take a trip to Kauthuka Park in Thrissur district, a venture recognised by the state government and started by Varkey Veliyath. You will find so many ways to fall in love with Nature here. Caves, water bodies, fish, trees, shade and a quaint ambience. What more can you ask for? It is not at all an exclusive children’s park, but the kids will love it here, as there are plenty of open, green spaces. For the adults, experiencing Kauthuka Park is like taking a walk back to the roots. It is located on the way to Athirappilly waterfalls. Take a small road, cross a bridge, and you are at Kauthuka Park.
It is like gathering practical knowledge on conservation and how to blend with Nature. There is a cave leading from one water body to another. Trees surround the water bodies. Dry leaves lie scattered around and blend with the soil. A cultural heritage museum, Muniyara adds to the appeal. The entire place is shaped like a map of Kerala and is reflective of the culture of the state. Objects used by our ancestors are preserved here. Travelling by bamboo is an amazing experience. You can see the bamboo spreading roots and leading to a bamboo hut. The clear water bodies are mesmerising. A natural filtration system using tree roots enables the cleansing of water bodies.
