Rugged hills, breezy ambience and beautiful views have made Madavoorpara a favourite destination for tourists over the years. For those who wish to spend good time away from the bustle of the city, Madavoorpara in Thiruvananthapuram district is an ideal choice. Gentle breeze blows over the bushes spread over the rocky slopes.
Enjoy a beautiful sunset and a panoramic view of the green cover atop the hills. This place is as much about the charming beauty as about historical significance. A rock-cut Shiva temple which dates back to 9th century CE is located here.
It is believed to have been built by a Buddhist monk. Inscriptions of ancient Malayalam script 'Vattezhuthu' can be found here. The idol of Lord Shiva is placed in the sanctum sanctorum carved out of rock. A bamboo bridge measuring 100 m long is a key attraction at Madavoorpara. Climb up the bamboo huts set atop the rock for a spell binding view. A children’s park equipped with slides and swings makes the place dear to kids.
As part of Responsible Tourism, the place also offers an opportunity to interact with the villagers who are skilled in traditional professions. This place is also known for the sacred pond called Ganga Theertham located near a tree. The proximity of Madavoorpara to the IT hub Kazhakoottam draws in a good number of visitors there, especially on weekends.
