Lined with water bodies criss-crossing the lush landscapes Maravanthuruthu stands out as a shining example of Responsible Tourism in Kerala. Maravanthuruthu in Kottayam district is where Responsible Tourism mission launched the first water STREET project. The STREET project stands for Sustainable, Tangible, Responsible, Experiential, Ethnic Tourism.  It was implemented as a participatory tourism development approach on the lines of the World Tourism Organization’s (UNWTO’s) motto ‘Tourism for Inclusive Growth`. 

Discover the beauty of the combination of natural landscapes and artwork in this village. This village is home to the concept called Art Street where houses and compound walls display colourful paintings which depict their lifestyle and cultural heritage. The place also offers kayaking, country boating, coracle boating and shikhara boat tours. Paddle your way along the rivulets and canals, taking in the beauty of the greenery surrounding the water bodies. The place has even left a mark in global scene.  Kerala Tourism’s STREET project was lauded at the World Travel Market (WTM) in London 2022 and it bagged an award for ‘Conserving water and improving water security and supply for neighbours’.
