Pause, Breathe and Reconnect at Kizhunna Beach

Known for its pristine beaches, historic forts, vibrant arts and warm hospitality, Kannur district encapsulates the essence of Kerala's diversity and charm. It is a microcosm of Kerala's cultural diversity, natural beauty and historical significance. Whether you seek the tranquility of its beaches, the allure of its ancient forts, the vibrancy of its festivals or the flavors of its cuisine, Kannur promises an unforgettable journey into the heart of God's Own Country. One of the biggest highlights of this beautiful land is the Kizhunna beach. Far from the bustling city life and the frantic pace of modernity, this beach beckons travellers seeking solace in the embrace of Nature's beauty.

Widely renowned as the hidden pearl of the North, local lore has it that Kizhunna beach was once a haven for pirates, whose whispered stories linger in the salty breeze to this day. Today, Kizhunna, the sleepy fishing hamlet that lies along the shores of this tranquil beach, welcomes travellers with open arms, offering not just a glimpse into its storied past but also a promise of peaceful serenity. Local vendors ply their trade, offering freshly-caught seafood delicacies that tantalise the taste buds and awaken the senses.

Kizhunna offers wonderful, panoramic views of the surreal waters and has soft sand and rock formation s that are a sight to behold.  It is an extremely secluded beach in Kannur that is frequented by those who prioritise solitude over  everything else. Kizhunna and Ezhara are twin beaches and are often referred to together. The beach is so secluded and ethereal that it feels more like a private haven than a public beach. The clear waters, pristine sand and the serenity that embraces the land are what make this secluded beach the dream destination of any beach lover.

Perched on the Malabar coast, the Thottada b?ach stands to the north and the Ezhara beach stands to the south of Kizhunna beach. Hilly land with rocky outcrops acts as natural dividers between the three beaches and ensures privacy to the Kizhunna Beach. Swimming, beach volleyball, cycling on the shore, hunting for exquisite sea shells and watching the trawling process are some of the avenues for entertainment here on the beach.

Beyond its natural beauty, Kizhunna beach offers a glimpse into the rich cultural tapestry of Kerala.  From here, tourists have easy access to major tourist hotspots in the vicinity like the hills of Paithalmala or the ancient temple at Madayikavu. Nearby, the town of Kannur beckons with its historic forts, traditional dance forms like Theyyam, and bustling markets filled with spices and handicrafts.

A visit to Kizhunna Beach is not just an escape into Nature but also a journey into the heart of Kerala's vibrant heritage. It embodies the timeless allure of the sea, the warmth of Kerala's hospitality, and the tranquility that comes from being in harmony with Nature. In a fast-paced world, Kizhunna beach is a reminder to pause, breathe and reconnect with the simple pleasures that make life truly extraordinary.
