Meenuliyan Para - The Charm of Nature Beckons

The picturesque region of Idukki, located in the Western Ghats of southern India, captivates visitors with its lush landscapes, rich biodiversity and cultural tapestry woven through centuries. From the towering peaks of the Western Ghats to the serene backwaters of its reservoirs, Idukki offers a unique blend of natural beauty and cultural heritage that leaves an indelible mark on anyone fortunate enough to traverse its terrain.

Idukki district is synonymous with breathtaking natural beauty. Its landscape is dominated by the majestic Western Ghats, which are clothed in dense tropical forests teeming with diverse flora and fauna. The district boasts of some of the highest peaks in South India, including Anamudi, the highest peak in the Western Ghats. Trekking enthusiasts and Nature lovers flock to Idukki to explore its numerous trails that lead through lush forests, cascading waterfalls and panoramic viewpoints, offering awe-inspiring vistas of mist-clad mountains and deep valleys.

It is located at a distance of 47 km from Muvattupuzha and 51 km from Thodupuzha. This towering rock formation, revered by locals and cherished by adventurers, stands as a testament to Nature's artistry and the region's rich cultural heritage. A massive mountain peak situated near Thodupuzha, Meenmuliyan Para is a majestic rock that stands more than 4,000 feet tall with a huge expanse of evergreen forests at its crown. The rock in itself covers an area of more than around 500 acres. The mountain gets its unique name from the fact that the surface of the rock resembles fish scales. This granite monolith commands attention with its sheer cliffs and panoramic views of the surrounding countryside.

The climb to the summit is not merely a physical journey but a sensory experience that unfolds with each step. The air is crisp with the scent of damp earth and forest greens, while the symphony of birdcalls and rustling leaves accompanies the ascent. From vantage points along the trail, the vista   unfolds a patchwork of emerald hills, cascading waterfalls and mist-shrouded valleys that seem to stretch on forever. For adventurers and Nature enthusiasts, Meenuliyan Para offers a thrilling trekking experience that provides both challenge and exhilaration. Since the roads to the peak are not oft travelled, trekkers and tourists get to explore uncharted ways on this trek. 

The monsoons are said to be the ideal time to visit the destination as they add charm to the sight of the rivulets and streams that dot the trek to the peak. On reaching the peak, if not too misty, one can actually see as far as the Cochin Port and parts of Thrissur district as well. The small forest area atop the hill is a thriving habitat for monkeys. snakes, hares, monitor lizards, mongooses and much more.
