Netholi (Anchovy fish) Vazhayilayil Pollichathu is a popular non vegetarian side dish. Kanthari mulaku ( a type of green chilli) in this makes it very spicy and goes well with rice.
Ingredients
Netholi (anchovy) fish - 1 cup
Small onions (sliced) - 1 cup
Ginger (chopped) - 1 tsp
Garlic (chopped) - 1 tsp
Kanthari mulaku or green chilly crushed - 1 tsp
Peppercorns crushed - 1 tsp
Turmeric powder - ½ tsp
Curry leaves
Salt
Coconut oil
Method of preparation
Take two teaspoons of oil and heat it in a pan. Put ginger, garlic, green chillies and onions. Stir well and fry it for three minutes. Now add turmeric powder and crushed pepper. Stir well and add salt. Stir and add the cleaned netholi (anchovy) fish. Stir and cook for some time.
Now keep the pan aside and heat two teaspoons of oil in an earthen vessel. Place the steamed banana leaf inside the vessel and pour some oil on it. Place the cleaned netholi (anchovy) fish on the banana leaf and wrap it. Cover the earthen pot and cook on low fire.
When it is cooked well, remove from fire. Garnish it with curry leaves and serve hot.
