Thal Curry

Thal (Yam Stem) Curry is a delicacy of Kerala’s tribal cuisine, stemming from the Malabar region. A delectable method of preparing yam stems, Thal Curry is an exotic dish that utilizes a rustic blend of spices. We bring you the simple recipe and method of preparing a dish of appetizing Thal Curry.

Ingredients
Cut pieces of yam stem
Green chilli
Ginger
Garlic
Cumin
Pepper
Coriander powder
Tamarind water
Turmeric powder
Coconut oil
Mustard
Curry leaves

Method of preparation
Take the cut pieces of yam in an earthen vessel. Add some turmeric powder, followed by water. Place the vessel on fire and boil the ingredients. Stir in between and boil till it becomes paste like. Now take another earthen vessel and heat some oil. Into this add garlic, ginger, green chillies and stir a bit.

Next, add cumin seed, curry leaves and coriander powder. You may now add the boiled pieces of yam stem into this. Stir well. Add sufficient amount of salt and stir. Follow this up with tamarind water. Continue to stir and cook for some more time.
