Broadway

Broadway, with its many alleys and cross roads, is situated in the heart of the city, adjacent to the Marine Drive.

Broadway was once the widest road in town and that is how it got its name. With the passage of time, M G Road became one of the main shopping areas and Broadway, a narrow street. 

Broadway, whose sloping-roofed buildings preserve its old-world charm, is one of the shopping hubs of Kochi. Wholesale and retail shops line the street and have on sale an incredible variety of products including shoes, bags, toys, jewellery, handicrafts, nuts, spices, various kind of oils, utensils, clothes, furniture, electronic equipments, books and so on.  Any time of the year, you will see people shopping or bargaining here During festive seasons, men and women of all ages shop, almost in a frenzy, at this market which offers great deals and great variety at such times.
 
New project
The Corporation of Cochin has come up with a new project under the Jawaharlal Nehru Urban Renewal Mission to preserve the heritage of Broadway, renovate its dilapidated structures and control traffic effectively.
