Cochin Special Economic Zone
The various Special Economic Zones (SEZs) in the country offers world class infrastructure facilities for industries and companies and Cochin Special Economic Zone, located at Kakkanad, Kochi is one of the important SEZs in India. It was established in 1984 as a multi-product export zone and later transformed into a SEZ in 2000. The zone is controlled by Government of India and facilitates foreign direct investments with special rules applicable in this sector.
More than 80 working units which focus on various business verticals such as Information and technology, engineering, readymade garments, rubber products, manufacturing etc are housed in CSEZ, which is spread over an area of more than 100 acres.
The CZES was able to achieve an export worth more than 1000 crores in the year 2007. The strategic location of SEZ, with the proximity to international airport and Cochin harbour and with the high quality infrastructure facilities, gives a competitive advantage to all the export-oriented enterprises set up here.
