Cruise Tourism
Researchers and social observers are of the opinion that it was with the ‘globalization at the sea’ that cruise tourism gained momentum. Kochi did not hesitate in exploiting the economic potential of this new market. Cruise terminal facilities were set up and amenities created for the easy berthing of cruise ships and the comfortable stay of tourists.
With its long history of welcoming visitors with open arms, Kochi had no difficulty embracing a sudden influx of visitors from cruise vessels that are growing in number every year. Minerva, Queen Elizabeth II and Song of Flower are some of the many cruises that have come to the Queen of the Arabian Sea.
Apart from being a destination of cruise tourists, Kochi also recently hosted luxury cruise sails with the Cyprus-based Louis Cruise Lines that starts from Kochi. The luxury cruises have a separate ‘mini-home’ for each member / family with a separate kitchen, dining hall and a spacious bedroom. The cruises also have facilities like health clubs, swimming pools, dance floors and bars.
