Feel of the village life
The village is a fishing hamlet with a population of over 30,000. Apart from fishing, farming and coir making are the other occupations of the villagers here. In order to contribute to the development of the place as a tourist destination, villagers involve interested tourists in their daily activities. Those who merely want to watch are also encouraged to do so. At the village, te tourist can observe various types of fishing such as bait fishing, fishing using traditional nets and Chinese nets, hooking and so on.
You can have a delightful walk on the shores of the backwaters and watch thatching of palm leaves and toddy tapping. A visit to the coir processing unit in order to observe the husk beating for coir making and another visit to the crab farm will be possible if Kumbalangi is included in your travel itinerary. A ride on a countryboat through the backwaters will also be a memorable experience.
Many houses of the villagers have also been converted into homestays, which compensate for the absence of resorts in this area. The tourists are ensured a comfortable stay with the family and they can eat home-made traditional Kerala dishes.
