Origin
There are very few records of the genealogy of the Kochi royal family. It is believed that they were related to Rama Varma Kulasekhara Perumal, the last Perumal of the second Chera dynasty. It was in the 12th century that he divided his land between his sons and nephew, Veera Kerala Varma. The latter was given the Perumbadappu Swaroopam. The Kochi royal family is descended from Veera Kerala Varma.
