The Kumarakom Town Boat Club and the Kumarakom Boat Club are the two major boat clubs in the village. Many of the oarsmen of these clubs have been members of teams that have won the prestigious Nehru Trophy.
Twenty oarsmen from Kumarakom have been selected for participating in the boat race to be conducted as part of the exhibition matches to be held at the London Olympics in 2012.
