Attappadi lies in Mannarkkad taluk of Palakkad district bordering the Silent Valley Reserve forest. The place attracts Nature lovers and anthropologists with its verdant landscape, meandering rivers and mountain slopes with thick woods. The place shares an intricate relationship with humans and Nature, as it is also home to tribes like Irulas and Mudugars.
The Bhavani river courses through this area. An important site here is the Malleswaram peak, where a gigantic Shivalinga is worshipped by the indigenous people of the place. The Shivarathri festival is celebrated with much fervour by the tribes here.
